1928

Back in 1928, Martin Norpell, D.D.S. opened a small second-floor dental clinic above the Fannie May store located on the corner of Main and Burlington, directly across from the Downers Grove train depot (presently the site of Capri Restaurant).

1967 / 68

In 1967, Dr. Norpell moved his practice to a new medical building located just off the corner of Main Street and Ogden Avenue. In 1968, he was joined by a young and energetic, former Army Dental Corps. Captain, Dr. Donald Provenzale, Sr. – Soon afterward, Dr. Norpell retired, and the dental practice was taken over by Dr. Provenzale, Sr.

Dr. Provenzale, Sr. embraced many of the new technologies available in Dentistry at the time, including having one of the very few panoramic x-ray machines in the Chicago area. His tireless devotion to the profession of Dentistry led him to being awarded numerous academic and honorary distinctions. He was ultimately elected president of the Chicago Dental Society and presided over the world’s largest scientific dental meeting.

1994

His dental practice quickly outgrew its space, and he moved his office to the present location, 4336 Saratoga Avenue, Downers Grove. He taught his son, the future Dr. Provenzale, Jr., dental laboratory technology, and employed him for the fabrication of crowns, bridges, and dentures while he was attending college and dental school. Dr. Provenzale, Jr., upon receiving his D.D.S. degree (and completing a one-year Anesthesiology Residency) joined Dr. Provenzale, Sr., full time.

2015

Dr. Provenzale, Sr. and Dr. Provenzale, Jr. practiced together for many years until 2015 when Dr. Provenzale retired from the practice and relocated out of state. His love of Dentistry never waned, however – he continued to practice, part-time, near his new home until his passing in 2023 at the age of 85.

2018

Due to continued and rapid growth and success, the practice went looking for new talent to add value. Dr. Provenzale, Jr. was fortunate to find someone located in his own backyard, who had recently graduated with high honors from Midwest University Dental School. Enter Dr. Karen Kowalisek. "Dr. K" brings her own youthful energy to our daily service offerings and is a welcomed new associate.

2024

In the fall of 2024, Dr. Provenzale, Jr. expanded his dental practice to focus on implants and opened ChewWisely Dental Implant Center, a separate yet connected facility. With the recent advancements in medical and mechanical technologies surrounding the dental industry, the ChewsWisely branch of the practice became heavily vested in solving highly complicated cases where traditional applications would not have been as effective. The team of ProDental and ChewsWisely Dental Implant Center have decades of experience in oral care, cosmetics and reconstruction.
